Chair, Department of Computer Science
Leads the department and its evolving computing programs.
I am an Associate Professor and Chair of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire. My work focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing, with applications in healthcare, scientific computing, and precision agriculture.
I lead NSF-supported undergraduate research, collaborate with Mayo Clinic’s AI & Informatics team, and help build AI curricula, institutional strategy, and research cyberinfrastructure.
Leads the department and its evolving computing programs.
Research emphasis: artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-performance computing, and interdisciplinary applications.
Works with Mayo Clinic’s AI & Informatics (AI&I) team on undergraduate research internships and applied healthcare AI collaborations.
Healthcare collaboration →Supports research computing, AI/HPC infrastructure, interdisciplinary computational research, and student access and training.
Explore the HPC center →Medical imaging, pancreatic cancer, clinical AI, healthcare decision support, and multi-agent immersive healthcare simulation.
Explore healthcare AI →Precision agriculture, geospatial AI, scientific machine learning, and data-intensive interdisciplinary research.
Explore AI for science →GPU and HPC infrastructure supporting interdisciplinary research, student access, and training at computational scale.
Blugold HPC resources →Contributed to curriculum and coursework development, stakeholder engagement, continued curriculum planning, and work toward an external AI advisory board.
AI majors launched in fall 2025 →Participates in campus AI strategy discussions initiated by Chancellor Carney, focusing on instructional and operational tools, infrastructure, policy, institutional priorities, and student outcomes.
Works with university administration and CETL to develop recurring conversations that help faculty and staff engage with emerging AI tools, opportunities, and challenges.
About CETL →Broader engagement includes participation with students in an AI panel before the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents.
Recipient of the 2026 CUR Mathematical, Computing, and Statistical Sciences Mid-Career Faculty Mentor Award.
My mentoring combines NSF REU leadership, interdisciplinary and HPC-enabled research, and Mayo Clinic internships, preparing students for publications, presentations, and further study.
This work also includes 34 institutional and regional conference presentations and 23 CERCA poster presentations involving 53 students.
